Frequently asked questions
Licensing, insurance, pricing and what to send with your enquiry.
Does a handyman need to be licensed?
For many small repair and maintenance jobs, a handyman does not need to be registered as a builder.
Some work must be done by a licensed or registered trade. This includes electrical work, major plumbing, gas work, asbestos removal and structural building work.
If your job needs a licensed specialist, we will tell you.
Is Doncaster Handyman insured?
Yes. Doncaster Handyman has business liability insurance.
Are you police checked?
Yes. Doncaster Handyman is police checked.
Do you give fixed prices?
Where possible, yes.
We prefer to give a clear price before work starts so you know what the job will cost.
Some jobs cannot be fully priced until the problem is opened up. For example, there may be rot, hidden damage or an issue behind a wall. If that happens, we will explain what we have found and quote the next step before continuing.
Can you do plumbing or electrical work?
We do not do electrical work.
We can help with very minor plumbing type tasks where allowed, such as a simple washer replacement. Anything that needs a licensed plumber will need to be handled by the right trade.
Why use a handyman instead of separate trades?
For small jobs, a handyman can often handle several things in one visit.
That can save time, reduce call out costs and avoid the hassle of booking different trades for minor repairs.
What areas do you service?
We service Doncaster, Doncaster East, Templestowe, Lower Templestowe, Balwyn, Balwyn North, Bulleen, Box Hill North, Kew East, Mont Albert, Mont Albert North, Surrey Hills and nearby suburbs.
What information should I send with my enquiry?
Please send your suburb, a short description of the job and photos if you have them.
For doors, locks, cabinets and wall repairs, photos usually make it easier to understand what is needed.
Do you work with businesses?
Yes. We help both residential and business customers with repairs, maintenance and small property jobs.
